2018 Belmont Stakes Winner

The 150th running of the 2018 Belmont Stakes is in the books. The third leg of the Triple Crown ended in dramatic fashion. Nyquist took the Kentucky Derby while while Exaggerator took the Preakness. On Saturday, Creator won by a nose.

Nyquist was out of the Belmont Stakes due to illness, which left the 13-horse field wide open, though two of the top horses constantly brought up were Exaggerator and Suddenbreakingnews. The former was a favorite entering the race with 6-5 odds while the latter had 5-1 odds to win.

Destin had a very good beginning, followed by Gettysburg. At the end of the first turn, Gettysburg had a notable lead. But Destin never let up, leading the race for the majority of the time. Exaggerator spent most of the race in fifth place, about two lengths away from first place.

But as Destin was nearing the end of the race, Creator came seemingly out of nowhere. Creator stormed up from the outside towards the end of the race so they couldn't immediately call the winner.
